Bangladesh Customs, Excise & VAT Training Academy operates need based, results-oriented and market responsive training programmes aimed at building professionalism of Customs & VAT officials at different levels. The purpose is to create an efficient and innovative, responsive and accountable, honest and committed public service system to meet the challenges of the 21st  century. For improving the performance of the indirect tax service, training is a major intervention. It can effect or bring about a new administrative culture for coping with the rapidly changing technology, impact of globalization and pressure of the free market economy. Training is used as one of the important tools to implement the national vision as reflected in the various policies, plans and programmes of the government. It is used for promotion of administrative efficiency, higher productivity and optimal utilization of human resources for the greater welfare of the citizens.

Bangladesh Customs, Excise and VAT Training Academy was established in 1981 under the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for the purpose of providing Departmental Foundation training to the officers and other staffs of the Customs & VAT department and improving their skills. Since its establishment, the institution is successfully running its activities on regular basis. The academy passed 30 years in course of time. In this long journey, the academy has undergone multifarious ups and downs in the area of infrastructural development, curriculum designing, adopting many other action plans. In the passage of time, the academy attains a commendable position in the area of civil service training in Bangladesh.
